Dear Ms. Rodwell,
It is with great pleasure that I write this letter. Firstly, I would like to express
my gratitude for getting to experience being a student in your class. I hope to
learn many things that will benefit me in the future. Considering the
circumstances our world is in and the fact that we may not ever actually get to
meet in person, it is only right that you get to learn more about me as a person
and as your student.
For starters, my name is Sarelle, however those closest to me prefer to call me
“Relly”. I don’t really have a preference for what I would like to be called. I
prefer to leave what people call me up to them because I feel like that makes
relationships better and more sincere. I was born on July 10th, 2001, and I’ve
grown to find joy in things like drawing, singing, dancing, reading fan fictions
on wattpad.com, and imagining myself as a popstar whenever I am in the
shower. Lately, especially due to our current pandemic, I’ve found myself
taking interest in doing things such as hair and nails. Things I would depend
on others to do became things I started doing for myself, and trust me, it really
saves you money! I was actually offered a job doing nails this week, so I may
start making money also! Aside from that, I am a new student here at CCNY.
I transferred from Long Island University due to problems financially. I used
to be a Health Science major at LIU, but I am currently a biology major here
at CCNY. The only downsides with transferring was losing out on the
majority of my credits, and going from what would’ve been my sophomore
year to technically still being a freshman in a new school. However my plan
for the future takes time anyways, so I can’t complain. I plan to go off to
medical school after college to become an anesthesiologist. I find the medical
field very interesting, if I didn’t have a fear of blood and seeing people and
their insides, I may have chosen to become a general surgeon, but clearly that
just won’t work for me.
Growing up, I’ve only spoken English, I took Italian in high school, but it
never really stuck with me. My family is Trinidadian and Venezualan, so I’ve
recently downloaded the Duolingo app to learn spanish, and I definitely would
recommend that app to anyone trying to learn another language. I am not
taking any spanish classes as of now, and I don’t really plan on taking one
unless I have to. For now I am taking my basic PATHWAYS courses at
CCNY, such as WCIV 10200, ART 10000, and USSO 10100. So far I can say
FIQWS seems like the most fun out of my courses, as I find joy in writing. I
can admit that everything being online puts a big stress on things. As I find
my eyes hurting from staring at my computer in my bed everyday, it isn’t
really motivating or even the slightest bit exciting. In my opinion school is
much simpler and easier in person, I feel it’s more genuine and better for
interaction, communication and the overall learning experience. I’ve noticed
some professors are much more lenient and understanding due to the change,
but others are much more strict, which I personally can’t understand. However
you and Ms. Brittany Zayas seems to be really cool and fun professors, I hope
to learn better ways to improve my writing skills from the both of you, and I
hope to have a fun yet productive semester especially with how dull the world
is currently.
